I'm asked all the time questions like, "how do I lift my butt?" or "How do I move this to here?". Somewhere at the very top of my answer is always to SQUAT! You can actually look at a man or woman walking by and tell in a second if they really do a full squat or not. I mean, let's face it, a good ass is sexy! If you squat correctly, it won't go unnoticed. Now that summer is here, we all want to turn a head or two and feel good in our swim suits, so let's make sure we don't forget to squat! Now, when I say squat, I don't mean to pack on as much weight to the bar as you think you can handle, go down a few inches and return back up to a standing position. It's not about the weight. If you want results, you must squat with integrity. That means with a controlled decent, a burst of power on the way up and you must get your ass to the grass! Yes people, you must get low in the hole if you want that desirable booty. If you only go down to parallel, you'll only be working your quads and leaving behind your hams and glutes. If you get nice and deep, you'll work your muscles through a greater range of motion, and your booty will thank you! If you have trouble getting low, try turning your feet out 30 degrees. This should help you to get a little lower while keeping form. Remember, it's not all about the weight. The lower you go and the better control and form you have, you'll be able to lift less weight. Despite what you may have heard, full squats aren't dangerous or "bad for your knees". That's the case only when your form is poor and you go down too fast or bounce at the bottom. The key is to control the descent, be slow in the hole, feel the depth, and then squeeze the heck out of those quads and booty in order to get you back up. So, go find a rack, squat with integrity and get your booty in summer shape! CRUSH TIME!!
