For those of you that know me well, I know you can't believe what you just read... "Don't fear the cold"?!? Those are not words you'd expect to come out of my mouth because I simply hate the cold weather! I live an active life, and I enjoy my runs outside and everything else the warmer weather brings. But here I am living on the east coast, and the winter weather is something I have to learn to manage every year. The days are getting colder, the leaves are falling off the trees and we know the colder weather and snow are only weeks ahead. Over the winter, it's way to easy to make excuses not to get your workouts in, and it's always more tempting to stay at home and indoors. The problem with that is our output typically drops as it's more likely to skip workouts, walks/runs outside, playing with the kids outside and even put off errands we would have otherwise run. Beware of the winter slump approaching and plan for it. Devise a plan now that allows you to stay active and avoid putting on those extra pounds just because of the weather. If you're used to running or walking outside for your exercise, plan for something else comparable but indoors. Try a new class or two, jump on a stationary bike, hire a trainer, or simply jump on a treadmill. Set a new winter warrior schedule and stick to it. Do something that will inspire and motivate to push you to the next level and don't let this weather that's looming set you back. So, plan for the cold and don't fear it! BABY IT'S CRUSH TIME!
